2015 Timbervine Syrah
A dark and floral
If there is a heaven, you could look down upon it from Timbervine ranch. Two different blocks of syrah are planted on the side of Mt Jackson, just south of Healdsburg. The hillside is so steep that it is only accessible by ATV. Getting to the grapes wasn’t the only conundrum of this wine. Being that this is a mountain side vineyard, the grapes could have been left for an extended hang time, however balance was what we were after. We chose to co-ferment with 4% viognier, which adds a floral component to this wine. In addition, 25% of the grapes were fermented whole cluster with stems. While Hoppe Kelly is brooding and masculine, Timbervine is pretty, dark, and feminine. In order to preserve the nose and subtle notes of white pepper, sage and merguez, neutral oak was used. This wine will continue to evolve for years. Aged 18 months in neutral French oak.
